A COLOURFUL SUMMER HANDBAG DESIGN
WITH 50’s FLOURISH!

This handbag design puts ‘zip’ into my summer wardrobe!

I wanted to create something in needlepoint that I could wear with my summer whites and light neutral casual clothes.

A needlepoint handbag design in bright pure summer colours could tie together my various coloured t-shirts and sandals!

So freshness and clarity of colour was important to me in order to pull it off!

 

 

The bright colours that I visualized for this contemporary summer bag reminded me of the abstract designs and bold colours of mid-century modernism.

 

So I decided to create a 1950's 'RETRO LOOK' with its: 

• youthful energetic swirls and sculptural lines,
•  simple abstract shapes of summer flowers
• exuberant flower colours, starting from the bottom of the bag with a bold purple, up to electric fuchsia, red and orange! 

 

Perfect 50's look for a fresh summer wardrobe!

 

 



Our model is wearing the ‘Fifties Flourish’ bag as a belt bag on a silver chain slipped through a channel at the back. (She could also add a shoulder strap if she wants to wear it that way).

It looks great with her white top and pants!

I added a silver pin to add to the flourish of swirls!

 

So now I have great ‘hands free’ belt bag --- great for summer barbeques, casual garden parties and lunches at the ocean!

 WHAT ABOUT THE REST OF THE YEAR?

I couldn’t resist taking this wonderful retro 50’s design and developing colours that can be worn the rest of the year!

What an amazing difference these colours have made!

The whole mood of the design has changed.

It’s a more subdued sophisticated result... with the flowers in blue and a range of turquoise-green, sitting on a red-purple background.

By adding a strap as shown, it becomes an elegant evening bag.

 

 

 

 

Now, with these two very different colour schemes, this great ‘Fifties Flourish’ design can be worn all year round!
