UPDATES

NOW AVAILABLE! ……. FOUR STAINED-GLASS CUSHION DESIGNS inspired by Architect Antoni Gaudi’s Basilica -

LA SAGRADA FAMILIA.

Here’s one of our four designs based on one of Antoni Gaudi’s stained-glass windows at the Basilica he designed, La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona!

Many of the brightly-coloured stained-glass works of art for the Basilica are meant to harmonize with the light according to the season and the hour of day.

We couldn’t resist adapting the bold, bright abstract designs and vibrant colours of these windows to textile designs!

To see the other 3 Gaudi STAINED–GLASS CUSHION DESIGNS , go to CUSHION PATTERNS plus you can also see the entire ZIVA Collection of stained-glass cushion designs.

Go to our SHOPPING PAGES for details about sizes and painting technique for the four designs.

RECENT PAINTINGS

Our client was looking for a table runner design to suit dimensions........... 15” x 60”! (approx. 38 cm x 1.54 m)

VERY LONG!

We submitted several designs (all part of the service!) and she settled on a KILIM carpet design which we re-worked to fit her table runner dimensions.

You will note that the red background was not painted at the client’s request.

By not painting the background colour, we had to paint the detailed motif around each medallion in a light grey for our client to be able to see it to stitch!

We create Custom sizes and Custom designsfor our clients. Just go to Contact Us and we’ll show you what your choice can look like!

NEW DESIGNS

COMING SOON! ……. TWO PERSIAN DESIGNS for cushions or dining chair seat covers.

'SAMARKAND' CUSHION DESIGNS

We have created two Persian cushion designs adapted from amazing tile decorations on the Medresseh and Mosque in Samarakand, Uzbekistan…. just for those who prefer more traditional designs!

We used the same colour scheme in both elegant designs.

By adding reds and blues to the orginal greens and golden yellows, we created two different yet cohesive designs for your home!

They look stunning together!

Don’t forget that they also work well as dining chair seat covers!

Go to our SEAT COVERS page and have a look!

ART NOUVEAU BRANCHES CUFF BRACELETS FREE DESIGN

Three Colour Schemes based on the same design!

TRADITIONAL ART NOUVEAU COLOURS

Based on our colour research of this period, we used their traditional warm colours in our cuff bracelet Art Nouveau design, called ‘ORANGE BRANCHES’.

We used a palette of medium brown, yellow orange and red-oranges with accents of a grey blue, and turquoise-green.

Perfect for those who wear a lot of browns and greens!

OR DO YOU PREFER COOLER COLOURS?

For those who prefer to wear blues or black , we couldn’t resist se-lecting a palette of colours for you as well!

The top design shows ‘TURQUOISE BRANCHES’ with a range of accents from yellow, orange and red in the centre motif and purple, fuchsia and red on the outside motifs. All sitting on a black background.

The bottom motif shows ‘GREY BRANCHES’ with a similar palette of reds and purples….. all on a strong blue background.

SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE!

  • The chart represents a 7” x 2.5” (17.78 x 6.35 cm) cuff bracelet.

YOUR STITCH TO TRY:

THE SPLIT STITCH

WHERE TO USE IT?

As an option, you could use the Split Stitch in each of the centre of the motifs between the branches, and the two small motifs in the large ‘trunk’ lower areas of the design to add texture.

HOW TO DO THE SPLIT STITCH:

  • Bring the needle up at 1 and go down at 2 , at two canvas threads away.
  • Bring the needle up at 3 , mid-point between 1 and 2, piercing the thread in the middle.
  • Take the needle down at 4 (2 threads from 3, but only one thread from 2) and come up at 2, splitting the second stitch. Continue in this way.

To form a smooth line, it is important to always come up in a hole that has previously been used for going down. On straight lines, the size of the stitch may be increased, but on tight curves, the stitch must be kept short.

We have featured this stitch before, but it would work well to add some texture to this design, so we thought we’d include it again. To get full instructions on how to use it go to our Decorative Needlepoint Stiches page. for more detail.

ASK THE ZIVA DIVA!

Hi ZIVA,

From a client:

Hi Sylvia,

Which paint pens should I use to color some parts of my Cactus Flower canvas?

There are some places where it needs a few dots of color. The canvas is all stitched and ready to frame, but I need to do the touch ups before framing.

What do you suggest please? Hope all is well.

Thanks,

Karen USA

ANSWER:

Hi Karen,

Great to hear from you! You can go to a local office supply, fabric or craft store for a waterproof fine point fabric marker in the colour you need (navy blue?).

There are also many sites online where you can order a waterproof fine point fabric marker.

I think personally going to a local store to look at the colours available firsthand would be the best.

I'm really looking forward to seeing your pieces completed!

Take care,

Sylvia

In one weekend they outlined all the materials necessary, and how to get started. I had taken an image of the Tabriz cushion design I wanted to paint (photo at left of painting completed). The main pattern in the centre I could paint freely, but I learned the very symmetrical design on the border still has to be counted after all! Lesson learned!

Go to Tabriz cushion to see the final stitched results!

Now I’m doing it professionally, and with ‘Stitch Painting’, I’m still counting!

Good luck! Let me know how you get on.

Best regards, Sylvia McLeod
