A FREE BAUHAUS DESIGN

BASED ON THE
ART AND DESIGN MOVEMENT FROM THE 1920’S

Our free design called ‘Bauhaus Two Centres’ (left)… was designed exclusively for our THIRTIETH FREE VIVA ZIVA ! Newsletter #2230.

WHAT WAS THE BAUHAUS?

Bauhaus was an influential art and design movement that began in 1919 in Weimar, Germany, founded by German architect Walter Gropius.

Its aim was to bring architecture, sculpture, and painting back to craftsmanship. He also thought that craft quality actually is the ultimate source of creative design.

The Bauhaus movement championed a geometric, abstract style, which focused on simple, rational, functional design, geometric forms such as the triangle, square, and circle and favoring asymmetry over symmetry.

It was influenced by 19th and early-20th-century artistic directions such as the Arts and Crafts movement, as well as Art Nouveau and its many international incarnations, including the Jugendstil and Vienna Secession

Its aesthetic continues to influence architects, designers and artists, even today 100 years later!

HOW CAN YOU USE THIS SQUARE
‘BAUHAUS TWO CENTRES’ DESIGN?

You can stitch it at 9” square and……

Either frame it ….

....Or fold it in half to make a chic clutch bag!

Or go larger!

Or you can stitch an additional 3 rows of red around the outside to create a striking 9.5” Bauhaus tray in either red or black! (Tray from Sudberry House)

Or go even larger!

Why not stitch a 20” square cushion ...

....to give your home a VERY DRAMATIC ACCENT!

Have a look at other Bauhaus designs in our ZIVA Collection!

         STITCHES YOU COULD USE?

You can, of course, use the most popular stitch, the Tent Stitch, or even the Cross Stitch, and it would look spectacular!

OR, because the design is completely on an angle, any stitch that can work on 45°, such as the
BRICK STITCH.

We stitched one of the squares in the
Brick Stitch, (with its chart  below) to give you an idea what it would look like. You could also change the direction of one colour to give more texture to the design.
