LYRICAL ABSTRACT CUSHION DESIGNS
INSPIRED BY MATISSE’S CUT-OUTS

Four of Henri Matisse’s cut-out designs have been adapted as part of the collection of abstract cushion designs for ZIVA.

Matisse‘s cut-outs have been my inspiration before!

A small purse adapted from Matisse’s semi-abstract paper-cut-out called ‘The Horse, Rider and Clown’ from his 1947 book called ‘Jazz’, was my first inspiration.

Then I added a whimsical cuff bracelet design influenced by Matisse’s “La Perruche et la Sirène”.

'MATISSE TRIANGLES'
CUSHION DESIGN

This latest Matisse cushion design, called 'Matisse Triangles', was adapted by ZIVA from an original exhibition poster from 1952,..…a lithograph for the Centenary celebration of the Mourlot studios at Galerie Kléber, Paris.

This rare and beautiful artist’s proof was originally signed and dedicated by Matisse to Maurice Operiol.

And it's not just triangles!

You can see four and five-sided shapes as well!

And the bold colours - reds, greenish-yellow, light green and turquoise on a strong blue background. All in juxtaposition with the black and white shapes!

What a beautiful accent it adds to the corner of this living room!

‘MODERNISM  AND MATISSE’
CUSHION DESIGN

 ‘MODERNISM AND MATISSE’ … a delicate and rhythmic design adapted from Matisse’s mid-20th century cut-outs’ period.

A series of hard-edge graphic shapes in colours of yellow, orange, red, blue and turquoise, sit in a (planned) haphazard fashion on a soft, warm beige background.

A related palette of bright primary colours artfully arranged into the shape of a snail to create two new abstract cushion designs… 'Matisse’s Snail'!

We've created two slightly different background colours...... one to go with 'Matisse's Triangles' with the white background (see below).... and the other to harmonize with 'Modernism and Matisse' cushion with the beige background.

Take your pick!

What a bold and colourful complementary pair of abstract cushions !

And we got great pleasure to paint one with the white background!

'Matisse's Snail' design was absolutely fun to paint with its dynamic colours and abstract shapes.

It's now ready to ship out.

It's also a perfect size to hang in your contemporary home.
