A TRADITIONAL CARRIAGE CLOCK DESIGN INSPIRED BY MY LOVE OF PERSIAN RUGS!

WHAT INFLUENCED THE
CARRIAGE CLOCK DESIGN?

As well as a textile designer, I am also an interior designer.

Over the years I used oriental carpets a great deal in both the homes and the offices I designed.

The small carriage clock from Sudberry House (www.sudberry.com) reminded me so much of the grand Georgian salons of the 18th  century in England, with their oriental carpets and mahogany furniture and panelling.

A beautiful and complementary combination of styles, colours and materials! 

HOW THE CLOCK DESIGN DEVELOPED

Exactly the blend I wanted!

…. the traditional mahogany wood and classic lines of Sudberry House’s small carriage clock combined with an intricate Persian motif for the clock face.

 

STITCHES USED

Most of the Persian motif was stitched in the Tent stitch on 14 gauge canvas. Because the final tapestry is behind glass, I had to be sure that it wouldn’t be too thick to mount.

I did use the  double cross stitch for the quarter hours and long triangular stitches to create a central medaillion as features.
